Palworld Server Hosting FAQ
How many players can join a Palworld server?
Palworld dedicated servers support up to 32 players simultaneously. You can adjust the player cap in the server settings (ServerPlayerMaxNum) to match your group size. Co-op sessions hosted from inside the game are limited to 4 players, but a dedicated server removes that limit.
Does Palworld support crossplay between PC and Xbox?
Yes. Palworld dedicated servers support crossplay between Steam, Xbox, PS5, and Mac players. To enable crossplay, add the platforms you want in the Crossplay Platforms setting (Settings tab, under Crossplay). By default, only Steam is enabled — add Xbox, PS5, and/or Mac to allow those platforms. How they join differs by platform, and this is worth getting right before you tell anyone what to do: Xbox and PS5 players use the in-game Community Servers browser and cannot type an address at all, because those clients have no direct-connect field. Steam and Mac players can use either the Server Address from Connection Info or the community browser. The deprecated AllowConnectPlatform key is never written by the platform.
Can I install mods on my Palworld server?
Yes. Palworld 1.0 introduced an official mod system with Steam Workshop support. Server-side mods are configured through the Mods/PalModSettings.ini file. You can enable or disable individual mods and manage the active mod list from the GameGrid control panel. Always back up your save before installing or updating mods.
How do I transfer my co-op save to a dedicated server?
You can copy your co-op save files to a dedicated server. The key files are Level.sav (the world), LevelMeta.sav (world metadata), and the Players/ folder (one file per character). Do not copy WorldOption.sav, as it overrides PalWorldSettings.ini on dedicated servers. Stop the server, replace the save files in the world directory, and restart. Our knowledge base has a detailed step-by-step guide.
What ports does a Palworld server use?
Not the ones you have read about elsewhere, and that distinction matters. GameGrid allocates every server a 100-port block from the 28000-39000 range, and your actual game port is the one shown as Game Port in Connection Info - forwarding or typing 8211 will not reach your server. Palworld's stock defaults (8211 game, 27015 Steam query, 8212 REST, 25575 RCON) are what a self-hosted server uses. On GameGrid the equivalents are derived from your block: game port, +1 query, +2 REST, +3 RCON. The REST API is the recommended admin interface and is kept on loopback; RCON is deprecated by Pocketpair. Neither admin port is ever exposed publicly, and all of it is configured for you.
How do I become an admin on my Palworld server?
In the GameGrid control panel, open Settings and set an AdminPassword. Then in-game, press Enter to open chat and type /AdminPassword YOUR_PASSWORD to gain admin access. You can also add your Steam ID to the admin list from the Player Management tab. Admin commands include kick, ban, teleport, spawn items, and broadcast.
Can I adjust Pal spawn rates and capture difficulty?
Yes. The PalWorldSettings.ini file controls all gameplay settings. PalCaptureRate adjusts capture success, PalSpawnNumRate controls how many Pals spawn in the world, and PalEggDefaultHatchingTime sets egg hatching duration. You can also adjust day and night speed, difficulty, death penalties, base worker limits, and PvP settings. All of these are editable from the GameGrid Settings tab.
How much RAM does a Palworld server need?
A Palworld dedicated server typically needs 16 GB of RAM for most groups. GameGrid allocates resources automatically based on your plan, so you do not need to worry about sizing. If you experience memory-related crashes, our support team can adjust your allocation.
Does the server stay online when I am not playing?
Yes. A dedicated server runs 24/7 independent of any player client. Your world persists and your friends can play even when you are offline. This is the main advantage over co-op hosting, which requires the host to be online.
How do I reset or wipe my Palworld server?
To wipe your server, stop it from the control panel, delete the contents of the save folder using the File Manager, and restart the server. A fresh world will be generated on boot. Always create a backup before wiping in case you want to restore later.
Can I enable PvP on my Palworld server?
Yes. Two settings must be on for PvP to work: bIsPvP (PvP Enabled) and bEnablePlayerToPlayerDamage (Player-to-Player Damage). Both are off by default. IMPORTANT: bIsPvP only takes effect on a NEWLY CREATED WORLD — turning it on for an existing world does nothing. bEnablePlayerToPlayerDamage is not new-world-only and applies on a restart. You can also enable bEnableInvaderEnemy to allow raids on your base by enemy factions. All of these are editable from the GameGrid Settings tab.
How do I schedule automatic restarts?
GameGrid can schedule automatic restarts for your Palworld server to clear memory and maintain stability. You can configure restart intervals from the Settings tab. The minimum interval is 6 hours, with 12 and 24 hours also available. The restart only runs when no players are online, so it will not interrupt gameplay.
What happens when Palworld releases an update?
When Palworld releases a game update, your server will need to be updated to match. GameGrid handles this automatically through SteamCMD. You will receive a notification when an update is available. Always back up your save before updating, and delete old mod files before reinstalling mods for the new version.
Can I set a server password?
Yes. Set ServerPassword in PalWorldSettings.ini to require a password for players to join. Leave it empty for a public server. The admin password is separate and is set via AdminPassword. Both can be configured from the GameGrid Settings tab.
How do I change the server name shown in the community list?
Set ServerName in PalWorldSettings.ini to the name you want players to see in the in-game community server list. You can also set a description and welcome message. All of these are editable from the GameGrid Settings tab. Changes take effect after the next server restart.
