How to Join Your Enshrouded Server
Three ways into your Enshrouded server, the server-browser filter that hides dedicated servers from most people, and what to send your players.
What to send your players
Three things, and the third is the one people forget:
1. Your server name, exactly as it is set on the Settings page. A new name shows in the game's list after the next start.
2. Your server's address and port: Server Address on the Connect card of your server's Overview, with a copy button.
3. The group password they should join with. It decides what they are allowed to do once they are in. Get it with Show and Copy in Settings โ User Groups. See User Groups, Passwords and Permissions.
Turn the dedicated-server filter on first
This catches more people than everything else put together, and it is a setting in the player's game, not on your server.
Enshrouded's server browser hides dedicated servers unless the filter asks for them. In the game: Play โ Join, then in the Server Filter on the right, enable the option that shows dedicated servers.
If one person can see your server and another cannot, check this before anything else.
While you are in that filter, note that it can also filter by password protection, servers with Steam friends on, empty servers and free slots. Any one of those can hide a server that is running perfectly.
Three ways in
Search the browser by name
Play โ Join, type your server name in the search.
The game's list is slow to fill, and a server that has just started can take a few minutes to appear in it: give it a minute or two before deciding something is wrong. Steam's own server list (below) usually shows it sooner. In a long list, yours may also be further down than you expect.
Search by address
Play โ Join, then switch the search to the address option and enter your server's address. This skips the browser's filters and sort order entirely, so it is the quickest way in when somebody cannot find the server.
Add it as a Steam favourite
The easiest for a group that joins regularly, because favourites are listed at the top of the browser.
1. In the Steam client, open View โ Game Servers.
2. Go to the Favorites tab and click +.
3. Enter the address as address:port, using the port shown on your server's overview.
4. Back in Enshrouded, the server is at the top of the browser.
Use the port from your panel. Your GameGrid server uses one UDP port for both game traffic and Steam's queries, and that is the one to use here. Guides written for self-hosted servers often mention a second port a number lower; that layout predates the game's own update 2 and does not apply. See Enshrouded Server Ports and Addresses.
The password prompt decides their permissions
When they join, Enshrouded asks for a password. Which group's password they type is what sets their permissions โ it is not a yes/no gate.
| They type | They get |
|---|---|
| The Admin group's password | Everything: kick and ban, containers, building in bases and the world, Flame Altars |
| The Friend group's password | Containers and building in bases and the world, but not Flame Altars |
| The Guest group's password | Building and digging out in the world, but nothing inside bases |
| The Visitor group's password | Look around, no building |
Those are the four groups a new server starts with; if you have changed them, the permissions are yours. So be careful who gets the Admin password: it is the admin system, there is no separate admin list.
Characters come with the player
A player's character (level, skills, inventory) is saved on their own PC, not on your server. Your server holds the world: buildings, chests, terrain and quest progress.
That means a player can bring an existing character straight onto your server and keep everything, and it is why items the economy delivers go to whoever is connected at that moment.
If somebody cannot get in
Work through Enshrouded Connection Problems. The short list:
- The dedicated-server filter is off in their game
- The server is still starting: check the Console
- Their game and the server are on different game versions
- They typed a password that does not match any group
- The server is full, and they are not in a group with a reserved slot
