Installing and Managing Mods
Browse, install, uninstall, and manage mods from Steam Workshop, CurseForge, Nexus Mods, Thunderstore, Modrinth, and Hangar.
Accessing the Mods Tab
Open your server panel and click the "Mods" tab. It appears for every game that can load mods.
Vanilla Minecraft has no mod loader, so its servers have no Mods tab at all. Switch to Paper, Forge, Fabric or NeoForge if you want mods.
Some games need a mod framework before any mod will load. Where that applies, a panel above the tabs installs and removes it and tells you whether it is present. A mod installed without its framework shows as installed and does nothing.
| Game | Framework | Required? |
|---|---|---|
| Valheim | BepInEx | Yes — nothing loads without it |
| Palworld | UE4SS | Only for Lua and script mods; .pak content mods work without it |
| Windrose | UE4SS | Only for Lua and script mods; .pak content mods work without it |
| Minecraft (Paper, Forge, Fabric, NeoForge) | None | The server type is the loader |
| 7 Days to Die | None | Mods load from the game's own folder |
The Mods page has two tabs: "Installed" shows your current mods, "Browse marketplaces" lets you search and install new ones.
Which marketplaces does my game have?
Only the marketplaces that actually carry mods for your game are offered, so the choices differ per game.
| Game | Marketplaces |
|---|---|
| Minecraft (Paper) | CurseForge, Modrinth, Hangar, Nexus Mods |
| Minecraft (Forge, Fabric, NeoForge) | CurseForge, Modrinth, Nexus Mods |
| Minecraft (Vanilla) | None — no mod loader, so no Mods tab |
| Valheim | Thunderstore, Nexus Mods |
| Palworld | Steam Workshop, CurseForge, Nexus Mods |
| 7 Days to Die | Nexus Mods |
| Windrose | CurseForge, Nexus Mods |
7 Days to Die has no Steam Workshop — the game's developers never enabled one — and it is not reachable through CurseForge's API either, so Nexus Mods is the single source for it here.
Steam Workshop is installable for Palworld. The platform downloads Workshop files itself and sends them to your server, so you never have to sign in to Steam on it. It relies on a Steam account linked at the platform level, which our administrators manage.
A marketplace the platform cannot download files from is still listed so you can browse it. Its button is flagged "browse only" and its cards read "Install unavailable" instead of offering an install control.
Pick a marketplace and search
Switch to the "Browse marketplaces" tab. The marketplaces for your game are a row of buttons across the top, not a dropdown — pick one and your search re-runs against it.
Type a search query and click "Search". Results show the mod name, author, download count and thumbnail.
Installing a mod
Click the "+" button on a mod card. A panel headed "Choose a file to install" opens and lists the files that mod publishes — pick the one that matches your server version.
The install then runs in the background and puts the files in the right folder for your game.
| Game | Where mods are installed |
|---|---|
| Minecraft (Paper) | plugins |
| Minecraft (Forge, Fabric, NeoForge) | mods |
| 7 Days to Die | Mods |
| Valheim | BepInEx/plugins |
| Palworld | Pal/Content/Paks/~mods for content mods, Pal/Binaries/Win64/ue4ss/Mods for Lua and script mods |
| Windrose | R5/Content/Paks/~mods |
Palworld has two destinations and the platform reads the archive to pick the right one for you. Windrose has only the content-mod one: a Lua or script mod for Windrose is refused with an explanation rather than being put somewhere it would never load, and you can place it yourself with the File Manager.
Mods do not load until you restart. They are read at startup, so nothing you install takes effect on a running server. The Start, Stop and Restart buttons are in the status bar at the top of every server page, including this one.
Managing Installed Mods
The "Installed" tab lists the mods on your server with their marketplace and their enabled or disabled status, plus a version where the marketplace publishes one — not all of them do, so a blank version is normal rather than a fault. A mod you uploaded yourself is shown as "uploaded by hand".
Click "Disable" to switch a mod off without deleting it. Its files are moved out of the loader directory and "Enable" moves them back. This is the quickest way to find out whether one mod is causing a problem.
Click "Remove" to uninstall a mod. You are asked to confirm — removing a mod deletes its files from your server.
Restart your server after enabling, disabling or removing anything.
Manual Mod Installation via File Manager
If a mod is not in the marketplace search, you can install it by hand.
Download the mod file to your computer, then upload it with the File Manager into the directory listed in the table above for your game.
See each game guide for the detail that is specific to it.
After uploading mod files, restart your server for them to load.
