7DtD World Generation and Maps

Navezgane, RWG and the pregenerated maps - which to pick, what each option does, and how to start a fresh world.

Where to Set These

Settings tab, World category. Game World, World Generation Seed, World Generation Size and Savegame Name all live there.

All four are new-world-only. Changing one does not reshape the world you already have - it decides what a new world would look like. The panel marks them so.

They are also restart-required, so saving one on a running server restarts it for you.

To actually get a new world you need a new save: either wipe from the Admin tab, or change Savegame Name so the server starts a separate save alongside the old one.

Navezgane (Premade Map)

Navezgane is the official handcrafted map. It is the same every time - same cities, same traders, same points of interest.

Set Game World to Navezgane. It is the default.

World Generation Seed and World Generation Size are ignored on Navezgane.

Good for: learning the game, a consistent experience, players who already know the map.

RWG (Random World Generation)

RWG builds a world from a seed. The same seed at the same size always produces the same world, so you can share a seed and get the same map.

Set Game World to RWG and put your seed in World Generation Seed (default "MyGame", up to 100 characters, any text).

World Generation Size defaults to 6144 and accepts 2048 to 16384 in multiples of 2048. Common choices are 4096 for a small server, 6144 for most, and 8192 upwards for a large community.

Bigger worlds take significantly longer to generate on the first start and use more memory and disk. Generation happens once; after that the world is loaded from disk.

If generation keeps failing, try a different seed or a smaller size, and read the Console tab for the actual error.

Pregenerated Maps

The game ships four pregenerated random worlds, and these are the exact values Game World accepts: Pregen06k01, Pregen06k02, Pregen08k01 and Pregen08k02.

The 06k maps are roughly 6k across, the 08k maps roughly 8k. There is no 10k pregen on this build - a value like "PREGEN10k" is not accepted and the server will not load it.

They load quickly because there is nothing to generate, which makes them a good middle ground between Navezgane and RWG.

Custom Maps and Prefabs

Custom maps and custom prefabs live in the game's Data/ folder, and on GameGrid that folder is shared between every 7 Days to Die server on the host and linked into your server rather than copied.

That means you cannot install a custom map or a prefab pack through the Files tab. Writing into Data/ is not a per-server change, it is not captured by your backups, and it is replaced when the game updates.

If you want a custom map, open a support ticket and say which one. Do not upload it into Data/ and expect it to work.

A world generated from a seed is a different thing and needs nothing installed - set Game World to RWG and use the seed.

Resetting the World

Full reset: Admin tab, "Wipe Server". This deletes the world and all player data, and keeps your paid time and bundle slot. Take a backup first if you might want any of it back.

"Delete Savegames" on the same tab removes save data while leaving game files and settings in place.

Softer option: change Savegame Name in Settings. The server starts a fresh save in a new folder, and the old one stays on disk at saves/Saves/<World>/<old name>/. Setting the name back returns you to it.

Partial reset: Max Chunk Age (Settings > World, default -1) resets chunks nobody has visited for that many in-game days. Land claims and bedrolls protect an area from it.
