Enshrouded 1.0 on Your Server: What to Expect
Keen Games has set 15 October 2026 for Enshrouded 1.0: how it reaches your GameGrid server, what to do before it, and how our tools handle a new build.
1.0 is a new game build
Keen Games has announced Enshrouded 1.0, the game's full release after Early Access, for 15 October 2026.
For your server, 1.0 is a new build of the Enshrouded dedicated server, and GameGrid applies it the way it applies every Enshrouded update. What 1.0 changes in the game itself is Keen's to announce: read their patch notes on Steam. This page is about your server.
How the update reaches your server
With Automatically apply game updates on (the default, in Game Updates on the Admin page), GameGrid applies a new build for you:
1. The new build is downloaded and prepared beside your current one.
2. Your server is backed up.
3. If anyone is playing, it waits a few minutes first. Enshrouded cannot show players a message, so nobody is warned in game.
4. The server is stopped cleanly (the world is saved), moved to the new build, and started again.
5. If the new build fails to start, your server is put back on the build it was running.
With automatic updates off, the card shows Update available and Update now applies it when you choose. Restarting your server does not fetch a new build: an update is its own job. Full detail: Enshrouded Server Updates: How They Work.
Your players' games update through Steam. A player whose game and your server are on different builds may be refused until both match: see Enshrouded Version Mismatch.
Before 15 October
| Do | Why |
|---|---|
| Take a backup of your own: Backups โ Create Backup Now | One is taken before the update anyway; yours is a restore point you chose, yours to keep or delete. See Enshrouded Saves, Backups and Restore |
| If you run mods, decide when to update | Mods are the most likely thing to stop fitting a new build. You can switch automatic updates off and update once your mods have caught up, but players already on 1.0 may not be able to join a server still on the old build |
| Tell your players | They update Enshrouded through Steam, and should restart the game fully afterwards |
Your world and your players' characters
GameGrid's update does not change your world's save, and it takes a backup before it starts. What the 1.0 game does with an existing world when it loads it is up to Keen, which is why that backup matters: if you want the world as it was, restore it from Backups.
Characters are not on your server at all. In Enshrouded a character (level, skills, inventory) lives on each player's own PC, so it goes wherever they play.
What GameGrid's tools do on a new build
A game update never stops GameGrid's own Enshrouded tools by itself. The server module finds what it needs in the game by name each time the server starts, so it keeps working on a new build, and GameGrid checks it against every new build automatically on a test server of its own. If it fails repeatedly on a new build, GameGrid pauses it on that build only and our team is alerted. So right after 1.0, as after any new build:
| Feature | On the new build |
|---|---|
| Item delivery, purchases, kits and Give | Keep working. If the module fails repeatedly on the new build, they are paused on that build: the Economy page and the live map say "Paused after a game update", and purchases and kit claims wait in your server's delivery queue (not cancelled; the wait does not count towards the usual 7 days) until it is working again |
| Teleport | Keeps working. The landing height comes from the newest map GameGrid has published, so until the map for the new build is out, a spot 1.0 reshaped can land a little high or low. It is paused together with Give if the module fails repeatedly |
| Player positions and chat | Keep working |
| The live map | Shows the newest map it has, with a note naming the build it is from |
| Item names in the shop | Keep the previous build's names; an item new in 1.0 shows a plain label until the new list is published |
| Difficulty presets | Measured again automatically on the new build, so "Start from Hard" means the new build's Hard |
| Inventory & Storage settings | Not applied on 1.0 yet. 1.0 changed the format of the game's data file, and the tool that applies these settings cannot read the new format yet, so your server uses the game's own stack, backpack and storage sizes until it can. The Console says so at each start. Your settings are kept |
| Mods | Applied to the new build before each start. One that no longer fits is left out (with several mods only that one, with one the server starts without mods) rather than failing, and logs/mod-framework.log says which one. Mods that go through the Enshrouded Mod Loader (EML) cannot load on 1.0 until EML reads 1.0's new data format |
None of these stops your server starting: Enshrouded itself runs on the new build as soon as the update is applied, and your players can play.
After the update
| Check | Why |
|---|---|
| The Console on the first start | The server prints the settings it applied, and GameGrid's lines say what was applied |
| The Mods page | See whether your mods still apply |
| Shop โ Scan Game Items | Picks up items that are new in the build |
| The live map | Its note says which build its map is from |
