How to Become Admin on Your Windrose Server

Windrose has no admin system of its own. Here is what admin access on a GameGrid Windrose server actually consists of, and how to set it up.

What admin means on a Windrose server

Windrose dedicated servers have no built-in admin system. There is no admin list, no whitelist and no ban list — the Settings tab has no Player Management section for Windrose at all, because the game declares none.

Everything that looks like admin control comes from Windrose Plus: a web dashboard with a command console, and a list of Steam64 IDs the mod treats as admins.

The two are separate. Dashboard access is your GameGrid account — the "Open Dashboard" link opens it signed in for anyone with access to this server. In-game admin recognition is the Steam ID list. You will usually want both.

Before you rely on it, know one current limitation: Windrose Plus’s moderation commands do not work. wp.kick, wp.ban and wp.unban queue a request that nothing acts on, and wp.listbans reads an empty list, because the native component behind them is not shipped enabled in the current release. There is no working way to kick or ban a player on a Windrose server today — a password is your access control.

Step 1: Turn Windrose Plus on

Open the server panel and click the "WindRose Plus" tab. Flick the toggle at the top of the page on and confirm the dialog with "I understand, enable it" — it explains that Windrose Plus is a third-party mod injected through UE4SS and what that risks.

The host agent downloads the latest release from GitHub and installs it. When it finishes, the panel shows a randomly generated dashboard password once. Copy it now.

Restart the server. Windrose Plus loads with the game process, so nothing happens until you do.

Full detail is in Windrose Plus Guide.

Step 2: Set the dashboard password

The generated password works, but it is 16 random characters. To set your own, go to the RCON / Admin Console section on the WindRose Plus tab, type a new one in the RCON Password field, and press "Save Changes".

The panel will tell you the change needs a restart. Restart the server.

The field shows "Password is set" rather than the value. Press the eye icon beside it to reveal the current password — that is how you recover the generated one if you did not copy it.

Do not reuse your GameGrid password. Anyone with this one has full command access to your game server.

Step 3: Add admin Steam IDs

In the Admin Steam IDs section of the same tab, enter the Steam64 IDs you want Windrose Plus to treat as admins, separated by commas — for example 76561198000000001, 76561198000000002.

Press "Save Changes". This section saves without a restart.

A player can find their own Steam64 ID from their Steam profile URL, or through a lookup site such as steamid.io.

Step 4: Open the dashboard

With Windrose Plus enabled and the server running, the WindRose Plus tab shows a "Live Dashboard" row with an "Open Dashboard" link and the port beside it.

Click it. The link goes through the platform’s own HTTPS front door, which checks you are signed in and that this server is yours, and relays to the dashboard. There is no address-and-port you can type into a browser — that port is firewalled to the game host on purpose.

You land on the console tab without being asked for a password — the link carries your GameGrid session — with the server’s name, version, invite code, player count, live player list and current multipliers beside it, and the Sea Chart on the second tab.

Opening it and reading it needs access to the server. Running a command from the console needs the permission that lets you change the server’s settings as well, so an account that can only view the server sees everything here but cannot type into it.

Using it

Type wp.help in the console for the command list, or expand the command reference panel beside it.

The commands worth knowing first: wp.status for server state and multipliers, wp.players for who is on and their actor IDs, wp.playerinfo for one player in detail, wp.pos and wp.tp for positions and teleporting, wp.uptime, wp.memory and wp.perf for how the server is doing, and wp.mapgen to build the Sea Chart’s terrain.

The full list, and which of them currently do nothing, is in Windrose Admin Commands Reference.

Changes to gameplay values are made on the WindRose Plus tab in the panel, not from the console. The console is for looking at the server and acting on players.

Controlling who can join

Since there is no whitelist and no working ban, access control on a Windrose server is the password and the invite code, both on the Settings tab.

Set "Server Password" and turn "Is Password Protected" on together, then restart. A password with the flag off does nothing.

If someone you do not want has the password, change it and restart — that is the only mechanism there is. If you are running with invite codes rather than direct connections, change the invite code too.
