Vault Space, Limits and Expiry
10 GB of Vault space per account, up to 2 GB of game files per save, how big a save of each game usually is, and what happens 12 months after a save was made.
Your space
| Limit | What it is |
|---|---|
| Vault space | 10 GB per account, free, the same for every account by default |
| One save | Up to 2 GB of game files and 10,000 files (logs and other runtime files are left out), the same limit the platform applies whenever it unpacks a backup |
| How long a save is kept | 12 months from the day it was saved |
The space bar at the top of your Vault page shows how much you are using and how much is free. It turns amber when you have used more than 80% of it and red above 95%. A save that is still being made already counts, so two saves cannot both take the last free space.
If 10 GB is not enough, open a support ticket: we can raise it for your account. If your space is ever set below what you already use, nothing is deleted; new saves are refused until there is room.
When a save will not fit, it is refused before it starts whenever GameGrid can tell from an earlier save of the server, with how much the save needs and how much is free. Otherwise the save runs, fails at the end if your Vault has no room, keeps nothing, and its space is free again at once. Delete older saves to make room: their space is free again at once. A save never pushes out another one.
How big a save is
A save is about the size of a backup of the server: its world and files, plus a few kilobytes of GameGrid setup. The figures below are the sizes we measured across GameGrid servers on 6 October 2026, so they are a guide, not a promise. Your own world may be larger, and grows as it is played. The Save dialog shows your server's size before anything is saved.
| Game | A typical save | The largest we measured | About how many typical saves fit in 10 GB |
|---|---|---|---|
| 7 Days to Die | 7.0 MB for a new world, 632.6 MB for one that has grown | 632.6 MB | over 1,000 new worlds, or about 16 grown ones |
| DayZ | 36.8 MB | 36.8 MB | 292 |
| Enshrouded | 385 KB | 1.5 MB | 27,879 |
| Minecraft (Vanilla) | 6.8 MB | 6.8 MB | 1,582 |
| Minecraft (Paper) | 114.9 MB | 114.9 MB | 93 |
| Minecraft (Fabric) | 2.4 MB | 2.4 MB | 4,486 |
| Minecraft (Forge) | 519 KB | 527 KB | 20,691 |
| Minecraft (NeoForge) | 2.7 MB | 2.7 MB | 3,936 |
| Palworld | 9.7 MB | 12.1 MB | 1,101 |
| Valheim | 60.5 MB | 81.4 MB | 177 |
| Windrose | 69.1 MB | 69.2 MB | 155 |
1 MB here is 1,000,000 bytes. A server whose files are over 2 GB cannot be saved to the Vault.
When a save expires
Every save is kept for 12 months from the day it was saved, then deleted. The date is on the save in your Vault ("Expires 3 Jan 2027 (in 241 days)"), and it turns amber in the last 30 days and red in the last 7.
- Loading or downloading a save does not extend it. To keep a world for longer, download it, or load it onto a server and save it again: that is a new save with a new 12 months.
- 30 days before, we email the account ("[GameGrid] Your Vault save <name> will be deleted on <date>"), your Vault page shows a notice naming the saves that are due, and a notice appears on your Account page.
- 7 days before, we email again, with a new notice.
- A save is only deleted after both warnings have gone out. We count a warning as sent once our email service has accepted the email. If an email could not be sent, we try again on the next daily check, and the save is not deleted in the meantime.
- If we could not warn you in time, the save is not deleted on its old date. When the first warning only goes out with 7 days or fewer left (for example because the daily check did not run), or the last warning was missed, we email you and put a notice on your Account page, both saying: "This save was due to be deleted on <date>; we did not warn you in time, so it is kept until <new date>." The save is then kept 30 more days, or 7 more days when only the last warning was missing. When the first warning was the late one, the 7-day email still follows before the new date.
- On the day, the save is deleted exactly as if you had deleted it, and a notice on your Account page says which save was deleted and that it reached the end of its 12 months. There is no email when it is deleted. A save that is being loaded onto a server that day is deleted the next day instead.
Each warning is sent once per save (again only if the first try could not be sent). Dates are calendar dates in UTC.
Deleting is final
Whoever deletes a save (you, GameGrid support at your request, or the end of its 12 months), it is deleted at once together with the key that protects it, and nobody can recover it, GameGrid included. There is no recycle bin and no undo. Its space is free again straight away.
Deleting a save sends no email. A save you delete yourself leaves no notice either: it is simply gone from your Vault. A save deleted when its 12 months end, or by GameGrid support, leaves a notice on your Account page naming the save (its name, game and the day it was saved) and saying why it was deleted. The only Vault emails are the two warnings before a save expires.
Without an active plan, and closing your account
- No active plan: your Vault stays. You can open it, download your saves and delete them until each one expires. You cannot make a new save or load one onto a server. Saves still expire on their dates.
- Deleting a server never deletes its saves.
- Closing your account: when you ask us to delete your account and its data (email admins@wdcgamegrid.com or open a support ticket), your Vault saves are deleted with it.
- Deleting your whole Vault: GameGrid support can do it for you on request. It sends no email: one notice on your Account page says how many saves were deleted and names them (the first ten by name, then how many more).
Keep your own copy
We take reasonable care of your saves, but no storage system is perfect. We strongly recommend that you keep your own separate copies of anything you cannot afford to lose: Download on any save in your Vault gives you its zip. The Vault's terms are section 8B of our Terms of Service.
