Your Vault: Saved Worlds That Stay With Your Account

The Vault keeps whole saved game worlds with your account, not with a server: 10 GB free, each save kept for 12 months. Where it is, who can use it, and what it holds.

What the Vault is

Your Vault is storage for saved game worlds that belongs to your account, not to any one server. A save holds a server's world, its config files and game settings, and the GameGrid setup you built around it. You can delete the server, stop paying for a plan, and later load that world onto a new server of the same game.

That is also how you change the game in a plan slot without losing a world: save it to the Vault, delete the server, create the new game's server in the freed slot, and load the save back when you return to that game. See Switching Games and Keeping Your World.

Three things define it:

  • It belongs to your account. Deleting a server never touches its Vault saves.
  • It is not forever. Every save is kept for 12 months from the day it was saved, then deleted. Loading a save does not extend that. We email you before it happens.
  • Deleting is final. A deleted save and the key that protects it are destroyed at once. Nobody can recover it, GameGrid support included.

Every save comes from one of your GameGrid servers, either from the server itself or from one of its verified backups. You cannot upload a world from anywhere else into the Vault.

Where to find it

Vault is in the main menu of the panel, directly below My Servers. It opens your Vault page: how much space you are using, then your saves grouped by game, each with the game's artwork, its name, the server it came from, when it was saved, when it expires, its size and what is inside it.

On a server's Overview page, the Vault card has Save to Vault and Load from Vault. The server's Backups page has the same two buttons, and every verified backup GameGrid took there (not one you uploaded yourself) has Keep in Vault.

Click a save to open its own page: its details, a note you can edit, what is inside it, its history (saved, checked, loaded, downloaded), and Download, Load onto a server and Delete.

Who can do what

Role on your accountWhat they can do with the Vault
Account ownerSave, load, download, rename, add a note, delete
AdministratorSave, load, download, rename, add a note, delete
Server managerSee the Vault page and each save's page

Billing managerNothing: the Vault is not in their menu

Someone who can only look sees "Only the account owner and administrators can save, load, download or delete Vault saves." under the space bar.

Space and how long saves are kept

  • Every account has 10 GB of Vault space, free. If you need more, open a support ticket: we can raise it for your account.
  • A single save can hold up to 2 GB of game files.
  • Every save is kept for 12 months from the day it was saved. To keep a world longer, download it, or load it onto a server and save it again for a new 12 months.

How big a save of your game usually is, how many fit, and the warning emails before a save is deleted are in Vault Space, Limits and Expiry.

What a save holds

PartWhat it is
World and config filesThe game's world, its own settings and its config files, from a backup of the server, without its logs and other files the game only writes while it runs, and without the access keys GameGrid itself creates on the server for its own tools (the server a save is loaded onto keeps its own)
GameGrid setupYour setting presets (without their passwords and other secret values), scheduled commands (not those a GameGrid feature runs for you), the mod list, economy and kits, the update preference, the backup schedule, the auto-restart interval, Player access, the Metrics alert rules, for 7 Days to Die the live map's markers and, for DayZ, its zones, hot zones, loot tables, drops, loot profiles, rotations and DayZ events (restored switched off, and only onto the same map)
Event Manager eventsListed for reference. They are not restored by a load, so you can recreate them

When you load a save, the world and its settings come from the save; you choose whether the server keeps its own name and passwords (see Loading a Vault Save onto a Server).

A world and its files can contain the in-game names and game account ids of the people who play on your server, and anything else your server's files hold. How we store and protect saves is in our Privacy Policy (sections 2.3A and 7.4) and the Vault's terms are section 8B of the Terms of Service.

How saves are protected

Each save is encrypted with its own key before it is stored, with the same storage provider and in the same region as your backups. After every save, the stored copy is read back and checked against what was written; a save is only shown as saved once that check has passed.

We take reasonable care of your saves, but no storage system is perfect. Keep your own download of anything you cannot afford to lose: Download on any saved save gives you its zip.

Without an active plan

If your plan ends, your Vault stays. You can still open it, download your saves and delete them until each one expires. You cannot make new saves or load one onto a server until you have an active plan again.

The Customer API

Your Vault is in the Customer API too: list, download, save, load and delete, with the scopes vault:read and vault:write. See API Scopes and Permissions and Customer API Reference. The Discord bot has no Vault commands.
