Important serverconfig.xml Settings Reference

Every setting the panel exposes for 7 Days to Die: defaults, ranges, which ones are read-only, and where the live config file actually is.

Where the Config Actually Is

Edit these from the Settings tab. That is the supported path and the one that persists.

There is a serverconfig.xml in your server's root folder and it is NOT the file the game reads. The launcher is pointed at a per-server copy at config/serverconfig.xml, so edits to the root file do nothing at all. This catches people out - use Settings.

The platform also rewrites some values in config/serverconfig.xml on every start: the game port, the Telnet port, the web dashboard switch and port, the save-data location, the disabled-network-protocols list and the terminal window. Those are the settings shown read-only in the panel. If Telnet Password is empty it also generates one, and it keeps a password you have set.

The format is a flat list of <property name="" value="" /> lines. There are no sections and no nesting.

Admins, the whitelist and bans are in a different file, Saves/serveradmin.xml, and are edited from Settings > Player Management.

How a Save Takes Effect

Some settings are marked restart-required in the panel. Saving one of those on a running server restarts the server for you, and the change is live when it comes back.

The rest are written to the config file and nothing else happens. 7 Days to Die only reads its config when the game starts, so those changes land at the next start. If you want one now, restart the server yourself.

Some world settings are marked new-world-only: World, Seed, Size, Savegame Name and Game Mode. Changing one of those does not reshape the world you already have - it decides what a new world would look like.

Basic

Server Name (string, max 100, default "My Game Host") - the name in the server browser. Restart-required.

Server Description (string, max 500) - shown under the name. Restart-required.

Server Website URL (string) - a link shown in the browser. Restart-required.

Server Password (string, stored as a secret) - blank for an open server. Restart-required.

Server Login Confirmation Text (string) - a message a player must confirm before joining. Restart-required.

Region (default NorthAmericaEast) - one of NorthAmericaEast, NorthAmericaWest, SouthAmerica, Europe, Asia, Africa, Oceania. Restart-required.

Language (default English) - English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, SimplifiedChinese, Spanish, TraditionalChinese. Restart-required.

Server Visibility (default 2, range 0-2) - 2 public, 1 friends only, 0 not listed. Restart-required.

Maximum Players (default 8, range 1-64) - restart-required. High counts raise CPU and network load; 7 Days to Die is single-threaded in its main loop.

Enable Crossplay (default off) - turns on the EOS listing that PlayStation, Xbox and Epic players search. Off by default because enabling it caps the server at 8 players. Requires EAC on and no mods; the server refuses to start if either is broken. See Crossplay on GameGrid.

Easy Anti-Cheat (default on) - turn it off before installing DLL or overhaul mods. Restart-required.

System (read-only)

These are shown so you can see them, not so you can change them. The platform sets them on every start.

Server Port - assigned from your server's port block. It is not 26900.

Web Dashboard and Web Dashboard Port - the game's built-in dashboard, enabled and placed at your base port + 2.

Web Dashboard URL - generated for you.

Telnet Port - the console interface the panel uses, at base + 3, firewalled to the host. Telnet Enabled and Telnet Password are not in this list; they are under Admin and Advanced below.

Admin File Name - always serveradmin.xml.

Terminal Window (default off) - also read-only: servers run headless under the host agent, which pins it off and refuses a customer write to it.

World

Game World (default Navezgane) - Navezgane, RWG, Pregen06k01, Pregen06k02, Pregen08k01 or Pregen08k02. New-world-only and restart-required. There is no 10k pregen.

World Generation Seed (default "MyGame", max 100 chars) - only used when Game World is RWG. New-world-only.

World Generation Size (default 6144, range 2048-16384, multiple of 2048) - RWG only. New-world-only.

Savegame Name (default "MyGame", a-z A-Z 0-9 only) - the save folder name. Changing it starts a separate save. New-world-only.

Game Mode (default GameModeSurvival) - the only value the game offers. New-world-only.

Sandbox Code (default blank) - the encoded gameplay settings. Blank means Nomad. Restart-required. See SandboxCode System Guide.

Enable Map Rendering (default on) - writes the map tiles the Live Map page draws from.

Max Chunk Age (default -1, range -1 to 365) - in-game days before an unvisited, unprotected chunk resets. -1 disables it.

Max Uncovered Map Chunks Per Player (default 131072, range 1024-1048576).

Players

Reserved Slots (default 0, range 0-64) and Reserved Slots Permission (default 100, range 0-1000) - slots held for players at that permission level or better.

Admin Slots (default 0, range 0-64) and Admin Slots Permission (default 0, range 0-1000) - the same for admins.

Persistent Player Profiles (default off) - restart-required. When off, players start fresh each join.

Allow Spawn Near Friend (default 2) - 0 disabled, 1 near any friend, 2 only near friends.

Gameplay

Player Killing Mode (default 3) - 0 no PvP, 1 kill allies only, 2 kill strangers only, 3 kill everyone. The default is full PvP.

Bedroll Expiry Time (default 45, range 1-365) - days of owner inactivity before a bedroll stops working.

Camera Restriction Mode (default 0) - 0 free swap, 1 first person only, 2 third person only.

Party Shared Kill Range (default 100, range 0-1000) - how close party members must be to share kill XP.

Performance

Max Spawned Zombies (default 64, range 0-500) - the server-wide zombie cap. The first thing to lower for horde-night lag.

Max Spawned Animals (default 50, range 0-200).

Max Allowed View Distance (default 12, range 4-20) - caps how far clients may render.

Max Queued Mesh Layers (default 1000, range 100-5000) - lower uses less memory but slows chunk generation.

Dynamic Mesh Enabled (default on), Dynamic Mesh Land Claim Only (default on), Dynamic Mesh Land Claim Buffer (default 3, range 0-20), Dynamic Mesh Max Item Cache (default 3, range 1-20).

Max World Transfer Speed KiB/s (default 512, range 0-10240) - the rate at which world files are sent to a joining client.

Land Claim Offline Delay (default 0, range 0-60 minutes).

Full detail: Land Claim Blocks and Base Protection.

Admin and Advanced

Telnet Enabled - the console interface that the Console tab, the player count, the economy and the chat bridge all run over. Leave it on: turning it off stops every one of them. Restart-required.

Telnet Password (secret) - if it is empty the platform generates one and Telnet only listens on loopback anyway. You do not need to set it.

Telnet Failed Login Limit (default 10, range 1-100) and Telnet Failed Logins Block Time (default 10 seconds, range 1-3600).

Hide Command Execution Log (default 0) - 0 show everything, 1 hide from non-admins, 2 hide from everyone.

Disabled Network Protocols (default SteamNetworking in the shipped config) - the platform clears this on every start so both SteamNetworking and LiteNetLib are enabled. Leaving SteamNetworking disabled makes Steam clients fail with "could not retrieve server id".

Ignore EOS Sanctions (default off).

Twitch Server Permission (default 90, range 0-1000) and Twitch Blood Moon Allowed (default off).
