DayZ Metrics: Your Server's History and Survivor Statistics

What GameGrid Metrics records on a DayZ server and where each figure comes from: players online, uptime and restarts, sessions and playtime, kills with weapon, distance and hit zone, deaths by cause, travel and time in your zones, chat, building, events, server FPS, leaderboards, Discord and the API.

Where Metrics is

Open your server and click Metrics in the sidebar, just below Events. It is there in every state, stopped servers included, and a deactivated server keeps it so you can still read its history.

Metrics is yours. Only you and the people you give panel access to can see it, and nothing on the page is shown to your players unless you switch it on (see "Privacy" below).

On a DayZ server it answers the questions owners usually end up asking in Discord. Who is really getting the kills, and with what? Was last night's restart the schedule or a crash? How long do people spend at the airfield zone you drew, and how many of them die there? Does the server hold up at 21:00 on a Saturday with a full queue?

On a DayZ server the page has these tabs:

TabWhat it is for

The general guide to every card, range and button is Metrics: Your Server's History. This article covers what is specific to DayZ.

How GameGrid collects DayZ data

DayZ gives an ordinary server no report of who joined, who killed whom or where anybody is. The GameGrid DayZ server mod fills that in: GameGrid installs and loads it on every DayZ server, and it runs inside your server, so nobody downloads anything to play. The rest comes from the server's admin log and from BattlEye.

Who a survivor is on DayZ

Every survivor is identified by their DayZ ID, which DayZ derives one-to-one from their Steam account, so one person is one survivor whatever their character is called and however often they respawn.

On a survivor's profile, the account owner and administrators see three ids, each with a Copy button: the Steam ID, the DayZ ID and the BattlEye GUID. Which one goes where is in DayZ Steam64, Player ID and BattlEye GUID. The search box in the player list accepts a name or a Steam ID.

Server health, uptime and restarts

The Server health summary reads like "Availability 96.4% · Uptime when meant to be on 99.1% · 1 crash · 3 restarts (2 scheduled, 1 Event Manager)".

  • Availability is the share of the range the server was running.
  • Uptime when meant to be on leaves out the time you meant it to be off: after you stop the server yourself, that time does not count against it until you start it again.
  • Every restart is named by its cause: Owner (you, from the panel, the API or the Discord bot), Scheduled restart, Event Manager, Command Manager, Update or move, Crash recovery, Exited by itself, Crash, Host unreachable, Deactivated, or Other when nothing recorded why.
  • A grey band labelled GameGrid mod unavailable: player data unknown marks minutes the server ran but the GameGrid DayZ mod did not answer, so who was on is not known for those minutes. It is not "nobody played". A minute or two of it while the mission loads is normal.

Hover a red or orange square to see what happened. A scheduled restart from your auto-restart policy and a Command Manager restart are named separately, so a server that restarts every four hours shows a neat row of orange squares, and anything between them is worth a look.

The Health tab adds Availability per day, Outages (every stretch the server was meant to be on but was not), Time to ready (how long starts take, including DayZ loading its mission, on average and for nine starts in ten), CPU, Memory, Network, Disk used, Backups and Game updates and mods.

Performance: FPS, frame time, entities and ping

The Health tab also draws what your DayZ server reports about itself. These are the numbers to open when players say the server feels laggy.

  • FPS is how many times a second the server's main thread updates the world. When it falls behind, survivors feel it as rubber-banding, doors and loot reacting late, and desync in fights. Look at its shape over a busy evening rather than at one figure: a level line is healthy, and a line that drops as the player count climbs, or a little further every hour since the last restart, is the server running out of headroom.
  • Worst frame time is the slowest single frame in each interval, in milliseconds. A good average with spikes here is the short hitch players describe as "the server froze for a second".
  • Entities is the infected, animals and vehicles the world is running. If it creeps up day after day, the cleanup timers in DayZ Zombies, Animals, Cleanup Timers and Base Decay are the first place to look.
  • Player ping is the average ping of everyone connected, from BattlEye's player list. If one survivor complains and the average is fine, it is their connection, not the server.

FPS, worst frame time and entities come from the GameGrid DayZ mod from version 1.9.0, and their cards say so. Ping is measured only while survivors are connected. What to change when FPS is low is in DayZ Server Performance: Server FPS, Lag and Desync.

Busiest hours

The Busiest hours tab shows the grid at full size. Switch between Average players and Peak players, Unique players and New players, or Player kills, and tick Include offline time to count the hours the server was off as empty. Below it are your Top 5 slots and Best time for an event, which opens the Event Manager with that time filled in. On most DayZ servers the evenings and the hours after a restart, when fresh loot is out, are the darkest squares.

Players, sessions and profiles

The 👥 Players button opens a list of everyone who has played on your server; the Players tab ranks them (Rank, Player, Logins, Kills, Deaths, K/D, Suicides, Playtime, Distance, Last active), and the Sessions tab lists every session with its length and distance. Each name opens the survivor's profile: playtime, sessions, deaths, kills, K/D, distance, places discovered, the names they used, where they spend time and their latest activity, with the place, cause and killer of each death. Full detail: Metrics: Player List and Player Profiles.

Your DayZ Tools page keeps its own Killfeed tab, leaderboard and survivor profiles (The DayZ Killfeed, Leaderboard and Survivor Profiles); every name there has a Metrics › link to the Metrics profile.

DayZ's sessions come straight from the GameGrid DayZ mod, so the Settings tab has no Import history from logs on a DayZ server.

Combat

DayZ reports every combat figure Metrics has, so the Combat tab has all six views:

  • Ranking: the Players ranking, sorted by kills.
  • Kill feed: every kill, newest first, as "Killer ⟶ Victim · weapon · distance · hit zone", with PvP only, Player and Weapon filters. A kill with bare fists shows unarmed where the weapon goes, here and in the Weapons view. The owner or an administrator can download it as a CSV.
  • Weapons: player kills by weapon with the average and longest distance, plus Kill distances and Hit zones.
  • Kill times: player kills by weekday and hour, in your time zone.
  • Kill map: your live map with the kills and deaths layer.
  • Deaths by cause: every death by what caused it, with the detail from the admin log (bled out, drowned, fell, froze).

The tiles are Player kills, Deaths, K/D, Infected and animals killed (from mod version 1.8.0), Longest kill and Longest streak. A kill line reads the way a survivor would tell it: who shot whom, with what, from how far and where the last hit landed. The Kill distances chart groups kills into bands from 0-10 m up to 400 m and over, so you can see at a glance whether your server is a close-quarters town fight or a long-range sniper map. Each survivor's profile has its own Combat tab: deaths by cause, kills and deaths per day, weapons, kill distances, hit zones dealt and taken, the longest life and the longest kill streak.

Battle Royale rounds are left out of every Metrics figure, so a round does not count towards anyone's kills, deaths or K/D. Each round is listed on the Events tab with its own results.

Travel, places and your zones

Travel shows your server's own live map with Density, Trails and Deaths / Kills layers. Pick all survivors, up to 20, or one survivor's session, and press Play to replay the trails. Beside the map: total distance, how much of it was on foot and how much in a vehicle (the GameGrid DayZ mod says when a survivor is driving), time moving and idle, teleports and respawns left out, average and top speed, the top travellers, distance per day, and Time in zones: how long survivors spent in each of your zones.

A place on DayZ is:

  • Zones: the areas you drew in your zones tool, circles and polygons alike (DayZ Zones);
  • Grid: the lettered and numbered squares the live map draws.

Draw a zone around the places your survivors fight over, such as the Northwest Airfield or the Tisy military base on Chernarus, and Places tells you how many hours were spent inside, by whom, when it was busiest and how many people died there. Places ranks every zone and square by time spent, visits or visitors and opens each one: time spent per day, its busiest hours, who spends most time there, who visited first and the deaths there. Positions older than 30 days are kept only as each session's simplified path and as time per grid square.

Events, economy, activity, building and chat

  • Events lists DayZ events, Battle Royale rounds, drops, prize events, Event Manager settings windows, Command Manager runs, and the server's stops and crashes. Open a row to see who took part: placements, kills, time present or alive, and payouts.
  • Activity is one timeline of chat, commands, joins and leaves, deaths, building, purchases, moderation and the server's own history, with filters and a search.
  • Chat is what survivors type in game, as the GameGrid DayZ mod sees it. A line starting with ! or # is filed as a command.
  • Building comes from the admin log: placing an item and building, dismantling or destroying a part, with the tool used ("Built Wall on Fence · Tool: Hatchet"). The Build filter on the Activity tab shows every one.
  • Economy shows coins earned and spent, how coins are earned, how wealth is spread, the items bought most beside how each delivery ended, the richest survivors (named only to the server's owner and administrators), kits, refunds and in-game sales, on a server that uses the GameGrid economy. See Paying DayZ Players for Playtime, Kills and Deaths.

Only the server's owner and administrators can read chat text. Everyone else sees that a message was sent, not what it said.

The live status bar

The server's Overview page and the Metrics page show a status bar. On DayZ it can show: Status, Players online, FPS (with a line of the last 15 minutes), Entities, Uptime, Server time with the in-game time of day under it, Next restart, Ping, Uptime when on (7 d), Peak today and Kills today. The next restart is the earliest of your automatic restart, an Event Manager settings window and a scheduled restart from the Command Manager. Press ⚙ to choose and order the tiles. While the server is stopped the game figures say not running.

Ranges, time zones, tables and downloads

  • The bar at the top picks the range: Live (the last 15 minutes, refreshed every 10 seconds), 1h, 24h, 7d, 30d, 90d or your own dates. Granularity sets how wide each step of a chart is, and Compare to previous period draws the period before as a dashed line with the change beside each headline number.
  • Every time is shown in your own time zone, named in the bar; the change link goes to your account page.
  • Show as table on any card swaps the chart for the same figures as a table. The card's ⋯ menu has Download CSV, and Export downloads every card on the tab.
  • The detailed record goes back seven days; before that charts are filled from hourly records and say "Hour-grained before" and the date.

Privacy: what is recorded about your survivors

  • Player statistics are recorded from 6 October 2026, when version 1.1.0 of GameGrid's Privacy Policy took effect. A chart that reaches further back marks where recording began with Not recorded before and the date. The server's own history (uptime, restarts, CPU, memory, players online) goes back further.
  • Player IP addresses are never shown or stored by Metrics: not on any page, in any download, in the API or in the Discord bot. BattlEye's replies carry them, and GameGrid never keeps them.
  • Player access (Metrics, Settings) decides what your survivors can see. Every switch is off until you turn it on: live positions on share links, leaderboards, posts to Discord and player self-service.
  • Forget this player, on a survivor's profile under Admin, deletes their positions, places and names from Metrics on all your servers and keeps their statistics as "Deleted player", so your totals stay right.
  • Positions are kept 30 days, sessions and deaths 365 days, chat 180 days.
  • Wiping the world keeps every statistic. Start a new stats season when you want a fresh start: Metrics: Stats Seasons and Wiping Player Stats.

Moderation and possible alternative accounts

On a DayZ server Metrics can suggest that two survivors may be the same person: linked to the same Discord account, the same game account, or connecting from the same connection, which the machine your server runs on reads from BattlEye when a survivor connects and turns into a one-way code at once. The address itself is never kept. A suggestion is a hint, never proof, and nothing is done automatically. You can also put a survivor On Watch, keep notes and set Alerts (a watched survivor connects, a kill spree, a chat keyword). See Metrics: Moderation, Possible Alternative Accounts and On Watch.

Discord: /metrics, /leaderboard and /my

Your GameGrid Discord bot reads Metrics with the server's API key. Create that key with the Discord bot preset, which includes the Metrics read scopes (Discord Bot Setup).

  • `/metrics` for your staff: summary, uptime and peak (which may be posted in the channel), top, player, places, sessions and killfeed (always private), and new-season. The moderation subcommands alts and watch need the player_metrics:alts and player_metrics:write scopes added to the bot's key, which the preset leaves out. On DayZ, /metrics top can rank by Playtime, Kills, Deaths, K/D, Distance, Sessions or Logins.
  • `/leaderboard` for everyone, once you switch it on. A DayZ server is offered Kills, Deaths, Longest life, Playtime, Distance travelled, Places discovered, Event wins and the Milestones feed, plus Top earners and Wealth with the GameGrid economy. Turn on Posted leaderboards or the /leaderboard command under Metrics, Settings, Player access, then set each board up in Players → Leaderboards or with /leaderboard setup. See Metrics Leaderboards.
  • `/my` lets a survivor read their own statistics: /my stats, /my playtime, /my travel, /my wealth, /my events. Switch on Discord /my and tick the sections to share under Metrics, Settings, Player access, Player self-service. Survivors must link their Discord with /link and !link in game chat first. See Player Self-Service.
  • Kill feed in Discord: switch on Post every kill to a Discord channel under Player access, and choose the channel with /config killfeed-channel. The DayZ bot's own /dayz killfeed works as before (DayZ in the Customer API and the Discord Bot).

The Customer API

Everything on the Metrics page is in the Customer API too: server history, busiest hours, places, players, sessions, the kill feed and CSV downloads. Server history needs the metrics:read scope and player data player_metrics:read. See Customer API and API Scopes.

Troubleshooting

  • No Players, Sessions, Travel or Combat tab. These appear once player statistics are recorded and someone has played since. If the page shows "Player recording starts" with a date, they appear from then.
  • A card says "No ... between" two dates. Nothing happened in that range, or the server was not running then. Try a longer range with Widen to 90 days.
  • "GameGrid mod unavailable: player data unknown" on Server health. Everything about survivors on DayZ comes from the GameGrid DayZ mod. A short stretch while the mission loads is normal; a long one means the mod did not load on that start. Restart the server, and contact support if it stays.
  • FPS, worst frame time and entities stay empty. They are reported by the GameGrid DayZ mod from version 1.9.0; the cards say so. Your server takes a new mod version at a restart after the machine it runs on has fetched it.
  • A death has no hit zone or no distance. The hit zone comes from the admin log's last hit, and a death with no killer (bleeding out, falling) has no distance.
  • Kills from a Battle Royale round are missing. Rounds are left out of every Metrics figure on purpose; they are on the Events tab.
  • No zones under Places. Places lists the zones you drew in your zones tool. Draw one and it appears within about half an hour.
