How to Become Admin on Your Enshrouded Server
Enshrouded has no admin list and no admin commands. Admin is a group password — here is how to get it, use it, and not give it away by accident.
Admin is a password, not a list
There is no admins.txt on an Enshrouded server, no Steam ID allowlist, and no admin field in the control panel.
Whoever joins with the Admin group's password is an admin. That is the whole system.
It is unusual if you have run other game servers, and it has one consequence worth saying out loud: the Admin password *is* admin rights. Anybody who has it has them, on every join, until you change it.
Getting your own admin password
1. Open your server's Settings page.
2. Find User Groups.
3. On the Admin row, click Show next to the masked password, then Copy.
Passwords are hidden by default and shown one at a time, deliberately. The reveal is recorded in your server's audit history: the fact that it happened, never the password itself. The password is hidden again when you save or leave the page.
From Discord, /settings table show-password shows it in a reply only you can see.
A new server's Admin password is a 16-character one generated for your server alone. You can set your own instead: make it long, not something you use elsewhere, and different from every other group's.
Joining as admin
Join your server the normal way and type the Admin password at the prompt.
That is the whole difference. There is no mode to switch on afterwards, and no command to run.
If you join with the wrong group's password, leave and rejoin with the right one — the password you typed on the way in is what set your permissions for that session.
What admin actually lets you do in game
| You can | Where |
|---|---|
| Kick and ban players | The in-game Social tab |
| Open storage, containers and workstations in any player's base | In the world |
| Build and remove anything in any base | In the world |
| Dig and build outside bases | In the world |
| Add, upgrade and remove Flame Altars | In the world |
What it does not give you is commands. Enshrouded has no console, no chat commands and no RCON — not on the client, not on the server. If you came here looking for /give, /tp or /kick, they do not exist in the game.
Everything else an admin wants is in the control panel instead:
| You want to | Where it is |
|---|---|
| Give a player an item | The economy, or Give an item on the live map |
| Move a player | Teleport a player here on the live map |
| Change difficulty or rates | The Settings page |
| Run a temporary change | The Event Manager |
| See who is on, and what happened | The Console and the live map |
| Stop, restart or back up | The control panel |
Do not leave a group's password empty
This is the one real trap in Enshrouded's permission system.
A group with no password lets anybody in with that group's permissions. A blank Admin password does not mean "nobody can be admin" — it means every player who finds your server is one.
A password shared with another group is the other trap: Enshrouded refuses to start when two groups have the same one, so GameGrid will not save that. It does let you leave one group's password blank, so set every password deliberately.
Giving somebody else admin
Just give them the Admin password. There is no per-player grant.
If you want to take it back, change the Admin password: everyone who had the old one loses admin at their next join. There is no way to revoke it from one person while leaving it with another; that is what the other groups are for.
For a trusted builder who should not be able to kick people, give them the Friend password instead, or make a group of your own with exactly the permissions you want.
