Linking Discord Accounts to Enshrouded Players
How a player links their Discord account to their Enshrouded character by typing a code in the game's chat, how to link someone by hand, and how to check and remove links.
Why linking is needed
A wallet belongs to a Discord account. An item has to be delivered to a character on the server. Linking is what connects the two, and nothing in the economy can be bought or delivered for a player until it is done.
The link is stored against the player's Steam account (their SteamID64), not their character name. That is deliberate: anyone can join under any name, and a player who renames a character, or makes a new one, keeps their balance and their purchases.
How a player links
A player links by typing a code in the game's chat. This is how it works on every Enshrouded server.
1. The player runs /link in your Discord server. They get a 7-character code by direct message (or in a reply only they can see, if their direct messages are closed).
2. They type !link CODE in the in-game chat within 10 minutes.
The whole message has to be !link then the code and nothing else. Capitals do not matter.
GameGrid reads your server's chat through its server module, because Enshrouded writes no chat to its log at all. The module names the player who typed each line, so this works with any number of people online. (On a server still running an older module build, a line is named only while one player is on, so the code works only while that player is alone.)
The typed code is the only proof. /link has a character option, but Enshrouded does not need it: GameGrid never matches a name against the players connected, and being connected under a name links nobody. Anyone can type any name into Discord, so the name proves nothing.
Text chat has to be on for the chat route (Settings, Basic). GameGrid creates new servers with it on. See Sending Enshrouded Chat to Discord.
Linking somebody by hand
Economy โ Links โ + Add Manually opens Link Discord User to In-Game Player. It is useful for a player who is having trouble, or for a one-off.
| Field | What to put in it |
|---|---|
| Discord User ID | The player's Discord user id, the long number (with Developer Mode on in Discord, right-click their name and Copy User ID) |
| Discord Username (optional) | A label, so the link is easy to find in the list later |
| In-Game Name | Their character name |
| In-Game Entity ID (optional) | Their SteamID64. The dialog calls it optional, but on Enshrouded a link without it is refused, because delivery finds the player by their Steam account |
Press Link Player.
Where to find a player's SteamID64: open the Console while they are connected and use the Players filter. Their join line reads [GameGrid] <character> joined (<Steam name> on Steam, <SteamID64>).
A link you add by hand behaves exactly like one the player made themselves: it appears in the Links list and you can remove it the same way.
What a link does not prove
The typed code proves that whoever asked for it in Discord also typed it in your server's chat. The link is stored against the Steam account the server module names as the sender. That is the same standard the other chat-reading games on GameGrid use.
It does not prove who the Discord account belongs to beyond that. If that matters on your server, link people by hand.
Checking and removing links
Economy โ Links shows Linked Players with each player's Discord user, in-game name, Game ID (their SteamID64), status and the date. You can search it and sort by any column.
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Pending | Not finished yet |
| Verified | The link is live. Purchases and kits reach this player |
A code that is never used simply expires after its 10 minutes; nothing needs cleaning up. Remove on a row deletes a link, and the player can link again straight away.
In Discord, /economy-links lists links and /economy-link-remove removes one. A player can drop their own with /unlink.
If a player's purchases are not reaching them, check they are linked before anything else.
